Cannot import QFX file into Quicken

QFX

Files with the QFX Quicken Transfer extension are used to transfer data from one version of quicken to another. They are part of the Quicken financial software and are used to save the financial data imported into the software. It includes account balances, transactions, discounts and more information that is recorded in a standardized format.

The QFX format is Quicken's proprietary format, although it is similar to the open OFX format.

Sometimes, due to some errors, the QXF file cannot be imported into Quicken.

Quicken QXF file is not imported

First of all, you should consider that the only financial data that can be imported and exported using the QXF file format is limited to accounts, non-investment and business account labels, categories, transactions, and scheduled transactions.

Steps to export financial data related to a QXF file:

  1. Go to the file menu and then select 'Export file'
  2. Find and choose the QXF file.
  3. You have the option to accept or rename the QXF file.
  4. Now, just select 'OK' to create the QXF file,
  5. When the process is complete, a confirmation message will be displayed.

Here are the steps to import Quicken data from one version to another using the QXF file:

  1. First, open the Quicken file into which you want to import the QXF data.
  2. Here, creating a backup is commendable and recommended, before proceeding with the import.
  3. Now to import the file, go back to the 'File' menu, select 'Import File' and then click on the 'Quicken Transfer Format (QXF)' file.
  4. You can choose to change the name, or examine the dialog to choose the file.
  5. Click continue to begin the file import process.
  6. Quicken will display accounts that cannot be imported, such as business or investment accounts.
  7. When the process is complete, you will see a confirmation message.
