Activate a QFX Account at your financial institution
Before seeing the procedure to activate a Web Connect QFX account, let's
understand what a QFX file is
QFX
The QFX extension files are part of the Quicken financial software and
basically save the financial data imported into the software.
It includes account balances, transactions, discounts and more
information that is recorded in a standardized format.
The QFX format is Quicken's proprietary format, although it is similar to
the open OFX format.
To activate a QFX connection account (Web Connect):
- You must make sure that your financial institution offers the QFX file
download service through Web Connect, for this, on the website of your
financial institution, click on the option to download your account
information as a QFX file. If prompted, click Open.
- Generally, when it is the first time you download information for an
account, Quicken will not be able to determine the base account for
downloading transactions, therefore, you will be asked to identify the
Quicken account that you use to track this financial information.
- If you have set up an existing Quicken account for this account, click
Account Exists and then choose the identifier you chose for the account
from the drop-down menu.
- When it comes to a new Quicken account, then you must click on 'Create
a new Quicken account' and then click Continue.
- Already at this step, your recent account history is downloaded from
your financial institution to Quicken. You will see a progress bar
indicating how much of the transfer was completed, depending on the
number of transactions.
- After your recent account history is transferred, you must accept the
downloaded transactions in Quicken.
- After the initial download and processing, you can download the QFX
file from the Online Center window by clicking Update / Submit.
You must remember that the QFX format is proprietary and is not freely
accessible, your financial institution must pay a fee to be able to offer
this service.
